When you enter the blue hell, you are frozen, unable to get out. That ability that this album has to catch you and not let you go is what I applaud the most about this band. One more life experience, but an ordinary experience, an atmospheric and depressing journey, difficult to forget.

The Palms Of Sorrowed Kings

Actually, I don't know how I feel about this album. Let me explain. I enjoy the heavier passages, the Black Metal side of things, but I VERY much enjoy the harp-only tracks. To combine both these elements, in theory, should not even work. In practice, it does - and very much so. I enjoy the second half of the album the most, though it's best consumed in one sitting. So, take 50 minutes and lend your hand (or, ears?) to the palms of sorrowed kings. It will be worth your time.

Why did it take me so long to find these guys? Apocalyptic dark folk visions of nature wiping clean the ugly stain of humanity from her infinite beauty...what's not to love? The ritualistic repetitive droning and chanted vocal elements remind me powerfully of what I used to like best about Current 93. Deeply moving.
